29 Aug Save time with an editorial calendar
Do you use an editorial calendar?
If you regularly publish articles and posts on your blog and different social networks, an editorial calendar is highly recommended. We all know how time-consuming these tasks are. It’s important to have a strategy.
An editorial calendar helps you plan your process and create the right mix of your owned, curated and promotional content. In less time!
You need to decide:
- Which social networks you wish to publish to
- How often
- What type of content you wish to share
With this information at hand, you can fill out your calendar. It can be a simple Excel spreadsheet or a more elaborate one. There are so many options available online.
Social media management tools, such as those above, are great to help you schedule posts on multiple social platforms. In any case, you need to know in advance what type of content you are going to publish tomorrow, next week, even next month. And that’s how your editorial calendar comes in handy.
Just take a look at your calendar and write/search/share according to it. It could be: a quote and a tip on Monday, one of your articles and a funny fact on Tuesday, an article from an interesting blog and one of your promotions on Wednesday, and so on..
I have created separate folders, one for each category (funny, quote, informative, techie, promotions, etc.), on my PC. Whenever I come across something interesting, I save it to the relevant folder. So when it’s scheduling time, I search my folders according to my social media calendar.
I have two Excel spreadsheets: one for my blog’s content and another one for social media.
Try, experiment, find what works best for you. When you get into the habit of doing it, you’ll realize these calendars are real time-savers.
