03 Apr How to write an SEO-friendly blog post
When it comes to content marketing, blog posts play a crucial part in giving visibility and promoting our business as well as establishing ourselves as influencers in our field.
So let’s see what are the golden rules for a blog post that actually gives results.
Take some time to decide what you want your readers to do after finishing your post. In other words, what is the purpose of your article? Convert leads in clients? Create a list of subscribers? Having your content shared on all main social media? As you may have noticed, typically a goal is always connected to creating audience engagement.
Make sure you pick a topic that your target audience would consider highly valuable and interesting.
If you lack ideas -it can happen to anyone- remember the Web is there to help: tools like Feedly or BuzzSumo are specifically made to find out what the most popular topics are at the moment and help you create great content.
If you are curating a blog, then SEO has to become your best friend (after all, attracting traffic from search engines is the ultimate goal of a blog itself). And keywords are the most important part of on-page SEO. Make sure they constantly appear all over your article, but be careful not to repeat them too many times to avoid “keyword stuffing”.
Also, remember that your main keyword has to be in the post headline and URL as well.
Speaking about SEO best practices, adding links to your text is another must-do: not only you can add external links that redirect your readers to other websites that can be of interest for them, but you can also add internal links that point to another one of your blog posts or a specific site page in order to make them stay on your website as long as possible.
The biggest thing to keep in mind when it comes to content creation is that people do not have a lot of time to actually read, so make your posts easily readable and scannable.
- Keep your paragraphs short.
- Use numbered lists (like in this post).
- Use bullet lists (like this one).
- Bold sentences and words to indicate what the most important concepts are.
Another fundamental “law” of the online world is that visual content is one of the most powerful.
One single image can grab a visitor’s attention and stay in his/her mind ten times more than any piece of text can ever do. Even if it is your best one.
So, it is vital to always add at least one image to every article.
Obviously, it has to be a high-quality one.
And if you have found it online, make sure it has been made free to be utilized: ownership’s rights apply in the online world as well as they do offline.
In case you are wondering, Pixabay and Pexels are great places to start.
Or you can go ahead and test your design skills by creating your own images on Canva.
7. Add at least one Call-To-Action
As stated in point 1 of this article, there is always a final purpose when creating content.
Well, CTAs are the best way to achieve it because they help to create engagement.
Just keep in mind that the action verb has to be clear (the reader has to know exactly what to do) and the CTA itself has to be simple and concise.
Phrases like ‘Download the free guide’, ‘Join the newsletter’ or ‘Leave a comment’ are all perfect examples or what a Call-To-Action should be like.
All the points I have covered in this post are the main ingredients for the “great article recipe”, but do not forget that our personality and style are other important elements to make our content interesting and unique.
