How can you figure out when is the right time to start working with a Virtual Assistant?
It took me some time to realize I needed to ask for help before becoming
overburdened by the excessive number of tasks required by my online business.
I went from “I’ll do it all I” to “Help, I cannot take it anymore”!!
I have been doing some serious soul-searching about the situation, and I’d like to share the conclusions I have come up with on how to figure out when it is the right time to start looking for your Virtual Assistant.
1 – When you realize you do not have the time to deal with your business online marketing or content creation.
The daily activities you have to deal with for both yours and your customers’ business are just too many! Of course, customers have priority, but over the long run, this will make you completely forget about your business.
We find ourselves behind with our business promotion, newsletter, social profiles, and even more behind with content production. That’s no good. Even if you work to create long-lasting business relationships, customers will come and go. We cannot neglect our online presence and promotion. Ever.
2 – When you realize you are working 24/7, including evenings and weekends, yet you have not been able to complete anything.
Obviously, this will not lead to anything good. Your family needs you. Your babies need to be taken care of. Missing out on some of yours and their life’s best moments will not do any good to anyone.
Some time ago, my life coach suggested I began to set specific business hours for my working day. And when the working day is over, it really is over: tomorrow you will pick up where you left off.
Now it is time to take care of your kids, your husband, your friends, to listen to your favorite band’s new album or to start planning your next vacation. Your job goes into standby until the next day.
I will be honest: I cannot always do it, but every time I manage to really stop and recharge, I feel so much better. Especially when I can do it for a few days in a row. It really makes a huge difference.
3 – When you overcome the fear to delegate. And the “no one else can do things the way you do” mindset.
Yes, it’s true. Each one of us is special in his/her own way, and this is reflected in our daily actions. But your assistant’s goal is to adapt to the way YOU work.
By sharing texts, pictures and brainstorming together, you will end up being a team.
Of course, you will need some time to get to know each other, as in any new collaboration. But, over time, she will start to speak your own “language”, to find the pictures that you like and to prepare your posts layout exactly as you would do it.
It’s about finding the right person.
And I’m sure the right person is not the one who just has the right technical skills. It’s the one that you completely trust. And if she tells you the job will be done by Wednesday, you know it will be done.
It is the person who, when making a mistake, immediately lets you know, takes responsibility for it and offers a possible solution.
Last but not least, is the person with whom something “clicks”. At the end of the day, you will have to work closely with her.
It’s better to choose someone with whom you feel you have a connection. I have written about “hiring based on skills or personality” in this article.
IN SHORT, THE RIGHT TIME TO START WORKING WITH A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT IS WHEN YOU FEEL IT WOULD BE AN INVESTMENT RATHER THAN A COST.
When you realize that delegating some tasks to her will give you more time to dedicate to your core business or your personal life. That you will have more freedom to bring your kids to the movies and play with them happily.
What are your thoughts on this? You think you would benefit from delegating some of your daily activities to a VA?
